Image is a reflection of oneself. It is what people see when they look at you, talk to you and or interact with you. It is also what you see when you look at yourself in a mirror; a reflection of who you really are. One Andre Agassi coined the phrase “Image is Everything” to signify how important our image is in our everyday life and in relation to humans.

Images are impressions formed about someone for various reasons at any time or place. It could be as a result of the way you were dressed, the way you spoke to someone, the manner at which you composed yourself at an event or even the way behaved towards a friend at a particular time.

For many occasions, images are created during the first encounter. That is why it is mostly said that first impressions count and we all make our judgments based on our first impressions.

Create good impressions by appearing as one. Looking good is not only about dressing up in expensive clothes or wearing designer clothes. It is about dressing up in simple yet neat, comfortable and admirable clothes.

It is also about knowing your body type, shape, shade and dressing appropriately. That way, what people see is a representation of who you are and what you intend to communicate and not creating any form of contradictions.

Personal image is mostly connected to your business image. Potential clients or colleagues relate to you based on the characteristics they identify with you. Looking unkempt and unreliable portrays a negative image hence colleagues, clients or even potential clients will see you as such. Consequently, no one will want to work or do business with someone who is unreliable.

Image building is a process; it encompasses all facets of your personal and business brand; it is never enough; so don’t stop at it.

Fashion Public Relations refers to publicity for fashion brands, designers or fashion shops. PR Professionals work in a wide range of industries. Whereas some represent a variety of companies across a range of areas others are more specific to one industry eg. Finance, Public Sector, Fashion etc.

 Whatever their specialty, PR companies are paid to gain publicity for their clients and brands. Since publicity is free, a fashion PR company or executive would be responsible for;

  • Writing captivating pitches, distributing and following up on press releases to media houses.
  • Building relationship with the press in order to have them write articles about your client.
  • Organizing promotional events, shows and photo shoots that will improve the visibility of your      client and make the brand stand out.
  • Help to maintain a good public image for the brand.
  • Assist with marketing initiatives and overall mission of the brand.
  • Dealing with requests from the press, the public and celebrity endorsements.

In recent times, established and emerging fashion businesses are competing for pages in renowned publications and runways all over the world making public relations one of the most important tool for the fashion industry.

As an emerging designer or creative person, it is not enough to have your designs on the runway and think that is sufficient for your business growth. Remember you are not the only one displaying your creativity during one fashion week season to the other. The question is how do you keep your brand in the minds of buyers and editors wherever and whenever amidst stiff competition. Here are three reasons you should be reaching for a PR Agency for your business now.

1. Strong Brand Profile

Being an emerging designer, you undoubtedly have a low brand profile. You are faced with several challenges as a result of being new in the market. Reaching out for a PR Professional will create an entire brand identity for your business and set your label apart and be memorable to buyers and editors.

2. Protect and Build Relationship

Hire a PR agency if you want to protect, build and enhance your reputation for your business. Public Relations Professionals are known for being experts in managing relationships with stakeholders. They will bring their expertise on analyzing your business and design strategic messages for your target market using appropriate media channels.

3. Strengthen your Online Presence

Technology is taking over every industry and the fashion industry is no exception. Building your business presence online with all players in your industry can strengthen your brand as a fashion designer. With Digital PR you don’t always need to rely on the traditional media outlets as your loudest platform; you can directly reach consumers via twitter, facebook, instagram and emails. Applying consistent and authentic messages can improve your brand visibility and expand your business.

Developing a strong brand is a powerful tool for everyone. It could start first with You then to that business of yours or that career that you aspire so much for. Basically it’s about Influence. How you influence people’s perception about you and how they relate to you. Let’s have top 3 ways to brand yourself for success.

Develop a Personal Brand

First create a distinct idea about who you are, what you do and what makes you different from many others. Know what your passion is and build on it. This way people will relate to you because they know who you are and what you represent.

Be Consistent

What makes strong brands today is because they have over the years proven to be credible with what they do and how they do it. Branding is not a day’s event. It’s a process that grows over time through exposure and originality.

Transform your personal brand into your business or corporate life

Once you have been able to build a strong personal brand, transform that into your business. How you deal with your clients, customers and colleagues at work. When you are able to combine a strong personal brand to that of your business or company’s brand, you will create an overall brand that will support each other. Consequentially, people will translate how they relate to you to that of your company and vice versa.

Think about world famous media mogul and Oprah Winfrey comes to mind. Think also of basketball and Michael Jordan is right there in your thoughts. That is the power of branding. Take that passion and make it your brand.

Remember you are your own brand.
